#SIMPLE is SMART

Like all good things come to an end, after two blissful years, we have neighbours on our floor now. Our adjoining apartment has been possessed (pun intended) and the possessors want the whole world to know about their new acquisition. The celebrations are planned for three straight days. For just a housewarming, it felt a bit too inordinate. Even weddings are just a day's ordeal now!

Celebrating a special occasion with friends and family is misapprehended by most, to the extent where subtleness is totally ignored and superfluity is employed to satisfy the urge to feel superior. To see them make a spectacle of their wealth is as entertaining as Rahul Gandhi trying to prove that he knows what he is talking.

I totally blame Karan Johar for setting such ridiculously high standards for our Indian weddings, which are risibly opulent already. The pressure to make it look grander and glamorous is more than ever now. Right from the clothes, that they will probably never wear again, to photo albums, which look like a movie poster collection, everything is anything but their true-selves.

I absolutely love the way Mani Ratnam does weddings in his movies. Untypical but enthralling enough and the participants are only those who seem really happy for the couple. Our very own PeeCee did just that for her traditional Roka. Parents, close friends and the groom!  No matter how many troll her for choosing a younger guy, I have always adored her choices. She has made some bold moves, explored her options from home to international platform and rediscovered herself constantly. Who better knows whats good for her than herself!

"Don't go broke trying to look rich, act your wage"; this candid quote drives home the message effortlessly.  Getting succumbed to the pressure of meeting the standards set by the society around you is just a beginning of a series of impractical decisions.  Its always better to be realistic and get a clarity on who or what truly fetches the amenity and complacence that we all really crave for.
