The new generation of directors and film makers are definitely giving a much awaited face lift to the telugu movie industry. From movies that mostly glamorised ridiculous running around the trees and eloping for love, to projecting a man's vision to change the living conditions in rural parts of the country(Sreemanthudu) and corruption in the urban parts, we have come a long and commendable way .
Koratala Siva's Vision of change and a better state of affairs in the state, is very realistic and one that fills you with hope of a better future. The movie is not just a few theories from some fantasy land. He projected some very- possible and practical solutions towards a change. All we need is one person who can risk his career and life to take the lead and put them into implementation.
I couldn't help compare it to Sekhar Kammula's movie "Leader". It too was a political drama but that movie concentrated more on the problem rather than solutions . "Leader" shows how impossible it is for anyone to do anything for the people, being in our political system , even with the truest of intentions and power in hand. It shows that, to stay in power, how essential it becomes to keep a bunch of power hungry people happy . Without majority in the house , one has no power but with majority, keeping the party members happy takes precedence.
On the other hand, Bharat Ane Nenu talks of solutions only, assuming that problems are very well known already. Mahesh Babu plays the role of a young man who has to step into his father's shoes as he becomes the chief minister of the state, overnight, following the sudden demise of his father.
Being educated in the United Kingdom and having lived there most of his life, it becomes easy for him to see why and how this country is different from the one he grew up in. Without wasting much time, he starts changing things that he sees are not in order and enforces strict regulations to instil fear against breaking rules, much to the displeasure of citizens and other party members.
He condemns the insensitivity of media also quite wittily. Journalists forget the fact that, they play the role of mere messengers in the society. Instead of reporting what the government and other private players are doing for the society, they would go to any extremes to bolster their monetary motives. Prying into anyone's private life is a sureshot tactic to surge their TRPs. I guess, the story needed a female lead only to prove this point. Otherwise, there was absolutely no need of Kiara Advani in a rather serious storyline, other than a couple of dance sequences. Nevertheless, Music by Devi Sri Prasad is catchy and enjoyable. Farhan Akhtar lent his voice for a telugu song, "I don't know", for a very first time. The song is well written by Ramajogayya sastry. The lyrics talk about the protagonist's love for learning new things but the visual part of it has absolutely no relevance to the words being heard. What a waste of such beautiful lyrics!! Farhan's voice is anything but soothing. I would rather prefer him as an actor and director. Well, its probably just me, coz there seem to be a lot of fans for his voice too.
Mahesh's choice of movies is getting more and more interesting and wiser. Looks like he is finally sick of stupid love stories too. Other senior actors should also stop taking safe projects just to rake in some more moolah and start experimenting with newer ideas . Kudos to Mahesh and Siva. Hope they lead and inspire more film makers towards meaningful movies. A must see for everyone because change has to start from every one of us. Its not just for the people in power but each and every person need to be fearful and accountable.

Well I liked this movie for a reason. As soon as the teasers were out, my son started saying "bharat ane nenu" and this became his punch line. After few days it changed to "Bunty ane nenu" or "Teju ane nenu". Now we improvised it to send any message to him as "Bunty ane nenu, milk taagutanu" or "Teju ane nenu, padukontanu" ... So in a way, Mahesh has brought a change for us :) but for how many days we have to see.
ReplyDeleteFrom movie point of view, he has brought out a good message about responsibility which is where we are lacking. Though he has solutions to problems but it looks like they might not be practical but a good message is sent across.
His choice of movies seem to be interesting and I see a pattern of self responsibility like Srimanthudu or this one ....
Nice review sis ...
