#ARJUN REDDY

I had decided to give it a miss but thanks to the controversy surrounding the movie , which pushed my curiosity levels higher and I changed my mind about Arjun Reddy.

Arjun Reddy is nothing like today’s youngsters. While most youngsters now are busy trying all the possible underhanded tactics for obtaining anything from…an iPhone from their parents  to chasing girls… Arjun Reddy is a guy who, not only has a clear opinion about everything but he is also bold enough to express it openly without the fear of being judged or criticised.  So, I feel that the makers of this character and this movie only hope that more and more youngsters think and act like him. I am talking about his dedication , his passion and his conviction, not his addictions.

Every article and every statement I read, only talks about his anger issues, his alcoholism, drug addiction and his choice of words, but where are all these rooted from ? He was a perfectly happy medico . Double standards, constant judgements and unrealistic expectations from the society around him triggered his anger.  Any person who is true to his feelings and ideals would react exactly the same way.

For him, alcohol and drugs were like a medicine to deal with his pain of heartbreak, not that I agree with his choices.  As his grand-mother rightly said, pain is very personal, everyone has to go through it alone. One thing he (each one of us, infact) could have done without is, the ridiculously insensitive advices thrown at him by the people around, at the very time, instead of being supportive that he is atleast trying to deal with the pain.

Mahesh babu’s new movie, Spyder, is a big disappointment. Most part of the movie goes by watching the very disturbing character of the antagonist of the story. Surprisingly, the CBFC felt its absolutely alright for everyone, including kids, to watch such levels of sadism being shown explicitly on the big screen and so its given a U/A certification, which means kids above 12yrs can watch it too but under Adult Guidance.  But, Arjun Reddy gets a strict A, adults only.
I dont know how they justify it, but I am compelled to construe that, anyone, including kids can handle hatred and sadism but Love is not easy to deal with. Yeah, right…..

I dont see any point in comparing Vijay’s character in his previous movie, Pellichupulu to Arjun Reddy. Variation in roles is what makes an actor versatile.  Vijay could work on his dialog delivery a little bit though , but again, if he is liked that way, why bother!!! Its fresh, its different and its telangana-ish. I wish they had worked a little more on the lead-lady character too. A too subtle and too emotionally dependant character felt almost anti-feminist.

The happy ending gives a fresh new feel to an almost-Devdas storyline. It gives a hopeful approach to the new Gen. It reminds that death is not the solution to any problem and that, most problems can be solved by open and clear communication.

  1. Well, even CBFC sometimes doesn't know the logic behind certification. Loving passionately is 18+, but hatred and violence is 12+. A sarcastic wow to the board. Rest, had a good read :D

  2. I have not watched either of the movies but you have nicely summed up the intelligence and the logic of censor board. I think the money power and makers of the movie do have a say or influence the certification. Apart from that very well written with right mix of words.

    Keep going sis ...
