AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL
Will Karan johar ever find an answer to his age old question, kya ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost banke reh sakthe hai? Can a guy and a gal be just good friends? He seems to be bringing up the same question right from Kuch Kuch hota hai. But hamesha pyar beech mein aajatha hai. What i don't understand is,Of all the people, karan shouldn't have a problem with this issue. Leave it for the straight people to worry about, Karan.
Ae Dil hai Mushkil can be felt and enjoyed by only those who have been through a heart break. For the rest of you normal people, please consider it as a statutory warning as it might help you when you come out of the theatre, with your palms supporting your heavy head ,trying to figure out fifty shades of love shown by Karan Johar. Worst part is ,they , fifty shades, are not in the way your first instincts told you but in our absolute Indian, painful, emotional way.
I couldn't place the movie in any one genre. Indian movies are a mix of all genres anyway, but I usually categorise movies into two genres, “Realistic-this-Gen", which the present teenagers and twenty-something people can relate to and the “Unrealistic-too-good-to-be-true” category, which the youngsters laugh about and a little older ones feel nostalgic about. ADHM starts off as a movie of the former genre and becomes the latter somewhere half way through, just before Aishwarya enters Ranbir’s life. BTW for all those of you who are eagerly waiting to see Aish in a glamorous avatar after a long time, do not forget that, she isn't the leading lady of the movie, Anushka is. So, don't expect her to be in front of your eyes for too long.
As usual, all characters of Karan Johar’s movie are filthy rich. No surprises there. As Anushka’s character puts it, not just first class rich but Private jet rich. None of them have a real world job but they can fly from London to Paris to Vienna to Lucknow whenever and however. Pardon me if I sound too realistic.
I would love to give just one piece of suggestion to Karan, in the name of a new perspective, that, people who watch your movies, spending 300 bucks, would love to go back home with a feel-good factor at the end of the movie but notwith a complex similar to what Noor-jahan can give to a beggar.
wink wink, people who have seen ADHM would know what I mean.
Fawad khan, a hot Pakistani product, is sporting a new bearded look in ADHM .He has a few lines to say but not much to do otherwise. Lisa Haydon plays a bimbo or as Anushka’s character in the movie puts it ,Ranbir’s manpasand khilona(favorite toy). She played her part pretty well and I wish her a very happy married life (she got married recently).
Theres one big surprise in the movie, which I really don't wanna ruin for you all. PM me if you don't wanna see the movie but your curiosity wouldn't let you sleep without knowing what it is.
One thing is for sure. This is Karan’s most matured movie so far. Even though I love the way he always portrays his female characters , I have always felt something shallow (alot actually) about his direction but ADHM is deep, emotional and almost real.
Music is just awesome, like always. I cant think of one KJ movie where music was a letdown. You can go watch it for Anushka's performance and music, if you don't mind a mild headache as a side effect. Ranbir was equally good. Just as good as he was in Tamasha. Which reminds me of Deepika, which reminds of a heart break ,which might have helped him perform so well in this movie character. Not to forget Katrina, Ouch, sorry dude.
